Overview
Extending Shop’s experience through gifting
Gift is a conceptual feature add-on designed for the Shopify Shop app, built to extend the platform’s shopping experience into gifting, sharing, and wishlist creation. This feature enables users to create personal wishlists, shared gift collections, and event registries, all while maintaining the app’s existing save and collection functionalities.
By fully adopting Shopify’s design language, component styles, and user flow patterns, this concept demonstrates how a cohesive expansion could integrate seamlessly into the existing ecosystem. The project explores how thoughtful UX additions can enhance connection, generosity, and discovery without compromising familiarity.

Final Design
Enhancing usability through intentional expansion
The final design of Gift focuses on creating a connected and intuitive experience that feels both personal and purposeful. Each screen was designed to support the emotional flow of gifting, from discovering and saving to sharing, while maintaining the clarity and structure users expect from the Shop app.
Users can explore curated guides, view product details, and organize items into wishlists, shared collections, or event registries. Each of these experiences was crafted to feel cohesive yet distinct, allowing flexibility without adding unnecessary complexity.
Rather than emphasizing newness, the design prioritizes continuity. By building on familiar interaction patterns and subtle visual refinements, Gift introduces meaningful value to the app while strengthening the sense of connection and community at the heart of the Shop experience.

Systems thinking & research
Building new value through familiar systems
Designing Gift began with a systems-level understanding of how Shopify’s Shop app organizes its shopping experience through discovery, curation, and purchase flow. Rather than introducing a disconnected feature, the goal was to extend the existing framework through gifting, wishlists, and shared collections in a way that felt native to the current ecosystem.
The information architecture and user flow were developed to map how users move fluidly between product discovery, list creation, collaboration, and sharing while maintaining familiar navigation and interface patterns. Each state, including empty, saved, shared, and collaborative views, was carefully defined to ensure clarity and reduce friction at every touchpoint.
Grounding the concept in Shopify’s established system logic allowed Gift to demonstrate how new functionality can coexist harmoniously within a complex, interconnected product environment while enhancing usability and maintaining a cohesive experience.

Reflection
Gift was the first project where I had to design under strict visual and structural guidelines. Working within Shopify’s established system pushed me to learn far beyond the comfort of building something from scratch. I had to understand how to create within defined boundaries, and that challenge became one of the most valuable parts of the process.
Throughout the project I found myself constantly problem-solving, learning new techniques, exploring unfamiliar features, and refining small details that most users would never notice. Even something as subtle as the white fog and black shadow at the bottom of the screen became an opportunity to experiment and grow.
I was meticulous about accuracy and consistency. Every element, from typography and spacing to icon recreation and color matching, was carefully refined to mirror Shopify’s design language as closely as possible. This attention to precision taught me not only how to design within a system but also how to respect the craft behind it.
